HIGH SCHOOL
LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

CULTIVATING YOUTH LEADERSHIP FOR THE EVERGLADES

ABOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Everglades Foundation's High School Leadership Committee provides a platform for cultivating youth leadership for Everglades restoration. It provides a unique opportunity for environmentally conscious high school students from across the state of Florida to amplify their voices through community engagement. As members of the High School Leadership Committee, students will participate in a program of service-learning and hone their leadership skills to foster and promote environmental stewardship in their local communities.

Youth Voices for the Everglades

Every year, the committee members select a project theme and work collaboratively to plan and implement their project in their local communities. This year, the committee chose to highlight Everglades Youth Voices, all of which are young people from around the state who are working in a variety of ways to promote Everglades restoration. Each committee member searched, identified, interviewed, photographed, and wrote about the Everglades Youth Voices showcased here.

We hope these youth voices serve to inspire other young people to add their voices and actions to restore and protect the Everglades.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The High School Leadership Committee is a community action project-driven leadership program. For the 2023-2024 school year, The Everglades Foundation will accept a select group of students from Palm Beach County to serve on the committee. Each year, a project theme and focus will be selected, and the committee members will work collaboratively to plan and implement the project in their local communities. Each project will enable the students to leverage their youth voices and those of their peers to promote Everglades restoration and protection.

We are looking for high school students that are team players, responsible, and are interested in environmental issues, especially those surrounding the ecological, political, economical, and social facets of Everglades restoration.

Committee Members Are Expected To:

  • Actively participate.

  • Attend bi-weekly virtual meetings.

  • Work independently and/or in small working groups.
